The nonprofit Paws of War is trying to help U.S. Army Specialist Howe send his puppy, Doc, back home to safety in Kentucky after the animal's rescue from dangerous conditions overseas.

The small dog ran through the gate and immediately clung to the soldier, Howe told Paws of War, an animal rescue nonprofit based in New York.
