The Calcutta High Court has asked the State Election Commission to decide if deployment of central forces is required for the upcoming civic polls in West Bengal or not. The decision is to be taken in the next 24 hours, the high court said on Wednesday.
The high court has asked the State Election Commission to hold a joint meeting with the home secretary and Inspector General of Police to take a call on deployment of central forces during the upcoming elections to 108 municipalities in the state.
Earlier, during the civic polls in Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandennagor on February 12, the high court had issued similar instructions and asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to decide on deployment of central forces. The SEC chose to deploy state police for those polls.
The elections to 108 municipalities in West Bengal are being conducted on February 27.
