Apple CEO Tim Cook is to donate $1 million to the inaugural committee, per Axios
Apple CEO Tim Cook will be donating $1 million to the inaugural committee of president-elect Trump in a personal capacity, reported the Axios outlet, citing anonymous sources.
Apple is yet to officially confirm or deny the matter. The donation is meant to symbolise unity and contribute to the new president’s official incoming ceremony, reported Axios.
In December, AP reported that Trump hosted Cook for dinner at the former’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump said they spoke about Apple’s legal and tax-related issues in the European Union.
Trump and Cook have also spoken over the phone, reported AP.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg too met with Trump, while billionaire Elon Musk is slated to co-lead a new department for government efficiency from this year. More Big Tech leaders have been praising or endorsing Trump in recent months, as it appeared highly likely that he would return to the White House.
This marks a break from when several social media platforms, including Meta, temporarily banned Trump’s accounts in the aftermath of the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021. However, these platforms loosened their policies in order to let Trump campaign in the run-up to the November 2024 election.
Trump appeared to acknowledge his awareness that more industry stakeholders were trying to establish a good relationship with him.
