BJP State President demands CBI probe for triple murder case, initiates signature campaign in Pongalur Panchayat Union.
BJP State President K. Annamalai on Thursday initiated a signature campaign in Pongalur Panchayat Union demanding the transfer of the unresolved case of murder of an aged couple and son at Semmalaigoundenpalayam in Avinashipalayam police station limits on November 28, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Leading a protest of party functionaries seeking justice for the triple murder, Mr. Annamalai said there was nothing to politicise in the case and that the CBI investigation would lead to the arrest of the culprits. BJP functionaries will approach households in Pongalur Panchayat Union and secure 50,000 signatures. A delegation of the local public will be facilitated to submit the petition demanding CBI prove to the Governor.
The very purpose behind protesting at the place of occurrence was to mobilise public opinion to ensure justice for the affected family irrespective of political considerations. The wrong-doers will have to be “hunted down”, he said.
The stalemate in the State Police investigation had been caused by manpower shortage and political interference. The CBI’s conviction rate was 65% compared to 26 % outcome of the State police. After withdrawal of the ‘General Consent’ for central agencies to take up cases following the arrest of State Minister Senthil Balaji by the Enforcement Directorate, the onus on bringing about a CBI probe was now in the hands of the Chief Minister, Mr. Annamalai said.
Justifying his self-flagellation in the Anna University student sexual assault case, Mr. Annamalai pointed out that it reflected failure of the very system of policing in a democracy. The BJP will pursue the issue to the logical end, he said
