Tirupati police on Tuesday, May 31, arrested a software engineer for killing his wife, dumping her corpse in a lake and filing a false missing person complaint. The murder took place in January 2022, and police were finally able to crack the mystery after a five-month investigation.
The victim, Padma, of Korlagunta, had married software engineer Venugopal in 2019.
It was alleged that after the marriage, he started harassing Padma. Her husband's harassment forced her to file a complaint against him. Initially, families from both sides tried to resolve differences between them, and it ended in Venugopal serving a divorce notice to Padma.
Later, Venugopal, who works at a software firm in Hyderabad, along with his friend Santosh, assaulted and killed Padma. They stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped it in a lake in Venkatapuram, Renigunta. The incident took place on January 5.
Later, he filed a missing person report with the police.
Since then, the police have been investigating the missing case. On May 27, Padma's father and mother raised suspicion of foul play by their son-in-law and approached the police.
The police questioned Venugopal and finally, the dead body was recovered from the lake. Police arrested the son-in-law and re-created the crime scene.
