Andhra Pradesh government has partnered with Amul in Anantapur district to produce and distribute milk to Anganwadi centres.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a new scheme in Anantapur district partnering with Amul to produce and distribute milk to Anganwadi centres.
The scheme, Jaganna Palavelluva is part of a state government initiative to develop the dairy sector in the state. The government signed an agreement with Amul in this regard.
The chief minister virtually launched the project. The state government will collect milk from dairy farmers, providing them with a good price and lowering the influence of middlemen and other vendors.
In addition, two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with Amul to supply Balamrutham (weaning food introduced under ICDS to provide improved supplementary nutrition to children between 7 months to 3 years) and the delivery of flavored milk to Anganwadi children.
The chief minister said, “Amul is the largest cooperative society and has immense experience in milk processing, competing with global companies. They are providing a good rate for the milk being procured along with a receipt, and they are crediting a bi-annual bonus to the dairy farmers as well.”
The dairy farmers had raised the issue when the price of one litre of water was much higher than that of milk. The state government has also set up BMC (Bulk Milk Coolers) units at every milk collection point and is setting up AMC (Automatic milk collection) units as well. Inspections will also be carried out to reduce fraudulent practices.
