A couple in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district alleged that the victory procession of newly appointed minister, Usha Sricharan, had resulted in the death of their child. The police had stopped their auto on the way to the hospital for 30 minutes despite knowing about the sick child.
Ganesh and Irakka, a couple from Cherlopalli village near Kalyandurg in Andhra’s Anantapur district, have alleged that their infant girl died because their auto was stopped for the victory procession of newly appointed Women and Child Welfare Minister, Usha Sricharan.
The police allegedly stopped the auto in which the couple were bringing the sick child to the Rural Development Trust (RDT) hospital on Friday night.
The parents allege that the victory procession of newly appointed Women and Child Welfare Minister, Usha Sricharan, resulted in a half-an-hour delay, which caused the death of their child.
The newly sworn-in minister was visiting her constituency for the first time and a procession was organised to welcome her.
Satya Sai District police had imposed traffic restrictions and blocked vehicles to allow the procession of Kalyandurg Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MLA and minister Ushasri Charan.
At the same time, Ganesh and Irakka from Cherlopalli village were taking their youngest daughter to the hospital. First, they called 108 ambulances. However, when the ambulances did not turn up due to the restrictions, the couple decided to shift the girl to the RDT hospital on an auto.
However, the couple alleged that police stopped the traffic when they reached Kalyandurg. They pleaded with the police to let them go to the hospital, as the girl’s condition was deteriorating. However, the unmoved policemen only allowed the traffic after the minister’s procession left the area.
