Srinivas, a 26-year-old man in Andhra Pradesh, killed himself on Monday, alleging he was assaulted and humiliated by the local sarpanch, K Shyam. Based on a complaint, police have arrested the sarpanch and five others in the case.
A 26-year-old man in Andhra Pradesh committed suicide after alleging that he was harassed and assaulted by the sarpanch in his village. The deceased, Srinivas, made a selfie video before ending his life. Based on a complaint, the police arrested six people, including the sarpanch.
Srinivas ended his life on Monday, April 11, at his house in the Kasimkota police station limits of the newly-created Anakapalli district. His family is blaming the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) associated sarpanch for his death.
His family members have alleged that Srinivas was beaten and humiliated by the village sarpanch, K Shyam, and his associates. Based on the complaint, police have arrested six people, including the sarpanch.
Meanwhile, lashing out at the ruling party, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary, Nara Lokesh, demanded that police should also file a case against sarpanch Shyam and his associates for harassing a woman employee .
In a statement, the TDP MLC said that the woman had complained about the YSRCP sarpanch to her friend, Srinivasa Rao.
“When Srinivasa Rao questioned the harassment, the sarpanch and others targeted him,” alleged Lokesh.
Nara Lokesh released the selfie video recorded by Srinivasa Rao before taking the extreme step, where he had named the sarpanch, and how he, along with his followers, had harassed the woman and himself.
