Stating that alcohol was the root-cause for most of the law and order problems and crime against women, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss sought implementation of total prohibition.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Dr. Anbumani said the Madras High Court had directed the State Government to close down all TASMAC bars as they were being run in violation of rules.
"Despite the court order, there is no sign of the STate Government taking steps to close down the bars. We find hundreds of vehicles parked in front of every bar," he said.
Attributing to most of the problems in the State to alcohol, he said even the lives of students were being ruined by the drinking habit.
Dr. Anbumani also wanted a total ban on online gaming as it had taken the lives of several youths.
"It is not gaming, but gambling. The players win the games initially. There is no skill involved in those games as people cannot take on the machine to win over it. It slowly leads to players losing money," he added.
Stating that the losers end up borrowing or stealing, he said so far at least 60 persons had lost their lives due to online games.
