Chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was stabbed to death in Amravati on June 21. Seven people, including prime accused Irfan Khan, have been arrested in the case.
Amravati chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was stabbed to death on June 21 for allegedly sharing a post on some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma for her comments against Prophet Muhammad. The incident took place a week before two men murdered Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur.
Irfan Khan, the prime accused in the case, who was on the run, was arrested from Nagpur on July 2. According to police, Khan allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill Kolhe and roped in five others, promising pay and a safe escape in a car after the killing.
The other accused have been identified as Yusuf Khan (44), Muddsir Ahemad (22), Shahrukh Pathan (25), Abdul Thoufique (24) Shoaib Khan (22) and Atib Rashid (22), all residents of Amravati and daily wage workers. A total of seven accused have been arrested so far.
