A case of cheating has been registered against Ameesha Patel and her business partner Kunal Grommer. A warrant was also issued against both of them, after which the matter reached the High Court. Ranchi-based filmmaker Ajay Kumar Singh, who is the complainant, said that the actress and her business partner took Rs 2.5 crore from him for the making and publicity of a film titled Desi Magic.
According to Ajay Kumar, Ameesha Patel and her business partner had said that they would return the money along with interest after the completion of the film. The shooting of Desi Magic started in 2013, however, the film has not been released yet. When the filmmaker asked for his money from Ameesha Patel, she started delaying in repaying it to him.
The hearing was held in the Jharkhand High Court on the CRMP petition filed by Ameesha Patel. The hearing took place in the presence of Judge Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi. During the hearing of the case, both the parties presented their sides. After the hearing, the court directed both the parties to submit written reply in view of the seriousness of the matter. The court has given two weeks time to both the parties to present their written reply.
It was told on behalf of the petitioner that the cognisance taken by the lower court in the matter is not correct. The accused has made fabricated allegations. The court has not followed all the rules, hence the cognisance taken by the trial court should be quashed.
The court has now fixed May 5 for the detailed hearing of the case. Till then, the hearing has been adjourned. The interim relief given by the court in the past has been kept in force till further orders.
