Amber Heard unable to pay Johnny Depp $10.35 million in damages
Actress Amber Heard is unable to pay the $10.35 million, her lawyer said on Thursday. The jury in the verdict sided with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The Oscar-nominated star had filed a defamation suit against Heard when she accused him of domestic violence. Heard filed a counter-suit. Following a bitter six-week trial, the jury returned with the verdict that Heard had defamed Depp in a Washington Post op-ed article in 2018. Depp was also found liable for defamation against Heard, for which the jury awarded Heard $2 million in damages. Heard's lawyer Elaine Bredehoft told NBC that the actress would 'absolutely not' be able to pay up and said that she plans to appeal the verdict. Bredehoft also said that the jury is likely to have been influenced by social media, with a lot of posts favouring Depp. "She was demonized here," Bredehoft told Reuters. "A number of things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused."
