At the recent court hearing, Amber Heard opened up about receiving death threats from Johnny Depp's fans. The actress said that people have threatened to 'put her baby in the microwave.'
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are facing off with each other in the Farfax Court, Virgina. Depp brought suit against ex-wife Heard over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018. In the article, she described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse." During a recent court hearing, the Aquaman star said that she has received thousands of death threats during the defamation trial between her and Johnny Depp.
"I am harassed, humiliated, threatened every single day," Amber Heard said on the final day of witness testimony, according to AFP. Amber said she has been the target of a social media campaign by millions of Depp's fans. She also said that she suffers from panic attacks, nightmares and trauma. "People want to kill me and they tell me so every day," she told the jury, tearing up. "People want to put my baby in the microwave and they tell me that.
"I receive hundreds of death threats regularly, if not daily, thousands since this trial has started, people mocking my testimony about being assaulted," the actress said. "It's been agonising, painful, the most humiliating thing I've ever had to go through," she said. "I just want Johnny to leave me alone."
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met on the sets of The Rum Diary in 2009 and started dating a few years later. In 2015, they got married. In 2016, Heard filed for divorce and alleged that Depp had physically abused her during their marriage under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Depp denied the accusations and stated that Heard was "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse." Their divorce was finalised in 2017. Johnny Depp is currently suing Amber Heard for defamation because of an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018. In the op-ed, headlined “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change,” Heard claimed that she was a domestic abuse survivor. However, she did not name Depp.
