According to the sources from the cyber unit of Delhi Police Special Cell, Mohammed Zubair received more than 50 lakh rupees in his account in the last three months.
A day after the cyber unit of Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of the fact-checking website Alt News, police sources claimed that Zubair had received more than 50 lakh rupees in his account in the last three months.
Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his tweets, officials said.
The Delhi Police on Tuesday said that they would investigate these transactions, including the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) ID from which the money was transferred and what it was used for.
Zubair had also received a lot of donations, sources said. The police said that they would also investigate who made these donations and the purpose behind them.
Meanwhile, police will try to seek further custody of Zubair.
The Alt News co-founder was arrested in connection with one of his recent tweets that had a questionable image with a purpose to deliberately insult the god of a particular religion, the police said.
The case was registered on the complaint of a Twitter user who accused Zubair of hurting religious sentiments. Zubair was summoned for questioning in a 2020 case, but was arrested after this case was filed immediately.
