Sangareddy police bust gang involved in illegal Alprazolam trade, seizing assets worth ₹68 crore; key accused arrested.
A gang involved in illegal manufacture and sale of Alprazolam was nabbed by the Sangareddy police, leading to seizure of illicit assets worth approximately ₹68 crore.
The racket was unearthed with the arrest of the key accused, Sudhir Goud, 47, near Mambapur, who had been absconding since December 2024, said the SP of Sangareddy police, Ch. Rupesh. Upon interrogation, Goud admitted to his involvement in the illegal production and sale of Alprazolam across several districts, including Hyderabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, and Kamareddy. “He confessed that the substance was manufactured in batches of 50 kilograms and sold for ₹4 lakh per kilogram, generating substantial profits for the gang,” said the officer. Alprazolam is a considered a potent sedative that can be habit forming.
The investigation revealed that the illegal activities of the group began in 2014 when Sudhir Goud, along with his wife Srivani and other associates, started sourcing Alprazolam from suppliers and selling it. By 2023, the gang had established their own manufacturing unit in Abdullapurmet after purchasing ‘Sai Priya Chemicals Company’. They equipped the facility to produce large quantities of the drug and distributed it across Telangana. Bishweshwar Singh and Rajeshwar Sharma, close associates of Sudhir Goud, played pivotal roles in setting up and managing the manufacturing operations. “However, four members of the same racket were earlier arrested on December 31, 2024 and sent to judicial remand,” added the SP.
The police have arrested five individuals in connection with the case, including Sudhir Goud, Bishweshwar Singh, Rajeshwar Sharma, Srivani, and Boda Shashi Kumar, who was responsible for procuring raw materials for drug production. The operation resulted in the seizure of 990 grams of Alprazolam, three cars, and six mobile phones. However, several members of the gang remain at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
SP Rupesh highlighted the devastating impact of drugs like Alprazolam, describing them as a ‘slow poison’ that has ruined the lives of many young people.
