Popular television personality and Padma Shri award winner Garikapati Narasimha Rao, in a recent interview, has slammed Allu Arjun's Pushpa, directed by Sukumar. He said that the film glorifies a smuggler and questioned if the makers will take responsibility if Pushpa inspires fans. He also added that he will confront Allu Arjun and director Sukumar when he gets a chance.
Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise was released in theatres on December 17 and went on to become a sleeper hit across the globe. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Recently, Padma Shri awardee and television personality Garikapati Narasimha Rao watched Pushpa and slammed the makers.
In a recent television interview, Garikapati Narasimha Rao said, "The movie doesn’t make any sense and it sets a dangerous precedent. It glorifies a smuggler and calls him a hero. He keeps saying, thaggede le, whenever he hits someone and is hailed as a mass hero by fans. If I ever meet the director or the actor, I will confront them about the film.”
He then added, "Say someone hits a random person on the road and says, thaggede le, will they take responsibility? Not just this film, many films promote utter nonsense in the name of entertainment. It gives way to normalising problematic behaviour.”
Director Sukumar's Pushpa: The Rise is based on red sandalwood smuggler Pushpa Raj. The film follows the story of Pushpa Raj's journey from being a coolie to becoming a smuggling syndicate head. Pushpa The Rise became one of the highest-grossers in 2022.
Pushpa: The Rise features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles. The second part, titled, Pushpa: The Rule, is slated to release in theatres in December 2022.
