If all political parties agree to conduct a caste census in the state, a proposal will be sent to the state Cabinet for approval, following which the deck will be cleared to conduct a caste census in Bihar.
The issue of caste census, which has been very close to political parties such as the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal United, has been dominating the proceedings ever since the leader of the Opposition, Tejaswi Yadav, raised this issue backed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar last year.
An all-party delegation from Bihar led by Nitish Kumar also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a caste census in the state. However, the Centre refused to conduct a caste census in the country, citing technical problems.
