All P.E.I. schools closed Monday due to weather, winter storm hits west

All schools across Prince Edward Island are closed Monday as a winter storm brings challenging conditions to much of the province, with the western region bearing the brunt of the snow.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Prince County, where another 10 centimetres of snow is expected. Strong winds will combine with the fresh fluffy snow to reduce visibility in blowing snow.
The plow dispatcher in Prince County said all plows are out, but crews are struggling to keep up with the steady snowfall.
"Conditions will improve near noon today as snowfall rates begin to ease," Environment Canada said.
In Queens County, 8 centimetres of snow has fallen in the Charlottetown area over the past 24 hours, with another 10 centimetres expected. The plow dispatcher in Queens County reported fair visibility in some areas, so it's taking the plows time, but they're making headway.
Kings County experienced freezing rain instead of snow. All plows in the eastern part of the province are out salting and sanding the roads to improve conditions.
Restrictions are possible on the Confederation Bridge starting around 11 a.m. today, lasting until 11 a.m. tomorrow.
The five French childcare centres on the Island are operating on a one-hour delay this morning due to the weather.
Collège de l'Île campuses will open at 10 a.m., with a further announcement at 9 a.m.
The opening of Holland College is also delayed Monday, with a further announcement to be made at 9 a.m.
The University of Prince Edward Island has also delayed its opening until noon. A further update is expected by 10 a.m.
Classes at Study Abroad Canada are delayed until 10:30 a.m., with a further announcement by 9:30 a.m.
All provincial civil service offices in all of Prince County, Queens and Charlottetown areas will open with a delay until 10:30 a.m. today, with a further announcement expected by 9:30 a.m.
The Service Canada Centres in Charlottetown, Summerside and O'Leary will also delay opening until 10:30 a.m., with a further update at 9:30 a.m.
