All lanes on southbound Deerfoot Trail have reopened to traffic following reductions Thursday after a semi truck hauling construction equipment collided with an overpass.
The Calgary Police Service said Friday morning that all lanes are open on Deerfoot Trail near the 32nd Avenue N.E. overpass bridge. Additionally, most of the lanes on the bridge are open, although a small section is closed pending repairs.
According to city officials, an excavator on the semi's flatbed hit the underside of the overpass Thursday morning, sending chunks of concrete onto Deerfoot Trail. No one was hurt.
CBC News reached out to the province for information on the assessment, but there was no immediate response Friday morning.
According to police, the driver of the truck was charged with mandatory court summons for careless driving and operation of a commercial vehicle in a prohibited manner.
Initially following the collision, police said there could be disruptions on Deerfoot for 48 hours. As of Friday afternoon, only the innermost left-hand turn lanes of the overpass were closed to drivers, per city traffic cameras.
