All eyes on Alanganallur now

World famous jallikattu event in Alanganallur, Madurai on January 16 with elaborate security, prizes, and foreign tourist events.
The stage has been set for the world famous jallikattu event to be held at Alanganallur in Madurai district on January 16.
On Wednesday, the authorities took stock of the arrangements made for the event. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will flag off the event, the last of the major jallikattu events held during the Pongal season in Madurai district.
The workers were seen giving the final touch to the arrangements as the ‘vaadivasal’ was given a fresh coat of paint and a ‘pandal’ was added to the main galley where the dignitaries would be seated. Residents and visitors enthusiastically clicked pictures and selfies in front of the ‘vaadivasal’ and the arrangements made for the event.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the jallikattu event. A large posse of police personnel have been deployed at the jallikattu venue to ensure the smooth conduct of the event and to manage the huge crowd who are expected to start pouring into the galleries as early as 5 a.m.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel, medical teams and ambulances would also be stationed at the jallikattu venue.
The best bull owner will receive a tractor as first prize and the best bull tamer will get a car as the first prize. The other prizes include motorcycles, gold and silver coins, almirahs, utensils and other household items.
Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has also organised events for foreign tourists. They will visit the Alanganallur jallikattu as part of the events. Around 1,000 bulls and over 900 bull tamers would be participating in the jallikattu.
