The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent investigators to Halifax Stanfield International Airport after the main landing gear of a small LifeFlight plane collapsed Saturday.
Tiffany Chase, a spokesperson with the Halifax International Airport Authority, said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. AT.
Chase said the medevac aircraft, which is a Beech 200 according to the TSB media release, notified the airport tower that it was returning after departure due to a "suspected mechanical issue."
"A short time later the aircraft landed on runway 14 and it stopped on the runway, unable to taxi off on its own," Chase said in an emailed statement.
In a news release, the TSB confirmed the plane's main landing gear had collapsed.
Chase said operations continued as normal after the incident as flights were shifted to another runway pending inspection of the plane. The plane was towed from the runway to a nearby hangar around 9 p.m.
TSB investigators have taken photos at the airport and secured parts for analysis, according to TSB spokesperson Dean Campbell.
Campbell said investigators will continue to assess the situation to determine their next steps
