Alberta RCMP are asking people to avoid travel Saturday due to poor driving conditions in areas across Central and Northern Alberta.

“Freezing rain is causing many collisions and poor driving conditions,” RCMP Alberta posted on its X account early Saturday morning.
The province added on its own social media post at 6:22 a.m. that “several areas within the province are reported as partly covered/covered ice with freezing rain and snow. Plows are active; plowing and sanding in progress. Give them room to work. Yellow circles indicate more than one plow in the area.
In Calgary, Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for a 30 per cent chance of snow flurries and then rain showers later today.
Edmonton will see rain Saturday morning before changing to snow, with around 2 cm forecast.
Red Deer has a 30 per cent chance of rain or flurries rising to 60 per cent chance of flurries later Saturday morning with northwest winds gusting to 50 km/h.
