Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Wakrah opens scorecard in France

Al Wakrah, a two-year-old filly who represents the Al Shaqab Racing silk, opened her scorecard on her second racecourse start when winning the Prix de Choisel, a maiden over 1,100m for two-year-olds at Chateaubriant in France on Saturday. The Simone Brogi-trained filly showed nice progress since her debut, earlier in May, when she finished seventh over the same distance at Tarbes. Ridden by Jordan Plateaux, Al Wakrah broke well from the starting gate at Chateaubriant and was in a mid-position. Round the first bend, she got closer to the three runners in the front. She improved more at the final bend and accelerated well at the beginning of the home straight. In the final furlong, she kicked clear to take the lead and win by a length. Regalien finished second for trainer Yann Barberot and jockey Clement Guitraud while the J. Boisnard-trained and Theo Bachelot-ridden Lisana was a further length and three quarters behind in third.
