AITUC protests against AINRC-BJP government's petrol and diesel price hike, citing impact on autorickshaw drivers' livelihood.
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Tuesday staged a protest against AINRC-BJP government’s decision to hike diesel and petrol prices by ₹ 2 from January 1 in the Union Territory.
AITUC members, mostly autorickshaw drivers, staged the protest in front of the Rajiv Gandhi Women and Child Hospital. They shouted slogans against the government for putting additional burden on the people by increasing the fuel price.
AITUC secretary Sethu Selvam said the hike in petrol and diesel prices would adversely impact the livelihood of autorickshaw drivers. The government should reconsider the decision to hike the prices of petrol and diesel, he said.
Fishermen association members, who participated in the fishermen grievance redress meeting held at the District Collectorate in Nagercoil on Friday, sought issuance of subsidy for diesel and implementation of advanced technologies and establishment of control rooms on the shore for rescuing fishermen during emergencies at sea.
