The actress played an active role during the film's promotions and never failed to thank director Mani Ratnam for casting her in the magnum opus. A day after Ponniyin Selvan's release, Aishwarya took to Instagram and dropped candid photos with director Mani Ratnam.

A day after Ponniyin Selvan's release on October 1, Aishwarya posted three photos with Mani Ratnam. The actress, who lovingly calls the veteran filmmaker Mani Garu, posed for the cutest pictures with him.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had the sweetest words for Mani Ratnam during the Delhi promotions of Ponniyin Selvan. The actress was in the national capital with her co-stars Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha to complete the last leg of Ponniyin Selvan’s promotion. At the press conference, Aishwarya said, “This movie is a labour of love and the guru is Mani Sir. He always says, 'I am glad we all are here together.' We are very grateful and complete gratitude to you Sir, that we could make this film. It’s very close to everyone’s hearts who have read this book. It’s such an important, interesting and exciting film. How fortunate we are that we are a part of this magnum opus. That’s what makes it super special."
She further added, "Magic happens when we are in it together. What a great group of artistes who have made this film. Full respect and all our gratitude. Thank you so much, Mani Garu for making me a part of this film."
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had spoken in fluent Tamil at Ponniyin Selvan's trailer launch in Chennai. She started off her speech by saying 'vanakkam' and also said that she was happy to be there in Tamil. Yet again thanking Mani Ratnam, she said "Mani [Ratnam] is my guru. Always. Thank you so much for this opportunity yet again, for the privilege and honour to take me as your student in your project, Mani Sir."
