AICTE clarifies rules for BArch admission, Council of Architecture to decide final norms

AICTE, while nullifying an earlier statement related to BArch admission requirements, clarified that the final norms for the same would be decided by the Council of Architecture.
Attention, architecture aspirants! The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued a clarification on what it had said earlier about BArch admission norms. AICTE had said that Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will not be mandatory in Class 12 level for admission into BArch courses.
However, now it has issued a clarification stating that it is the Council of Architecture (CoA) which will be deciding the final BArch eligibility criteria for aspirants.
On March 29, AICTE released its ‘Approval Process Handbook 2022-23’ where it had specified that PCM wouldn’t be mandatory for admissions into three courses Architecture, Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology.
However, just days after the released, AICTE said that putting Architecture on the list had been an accident.
After correction, the AICTE handbook now states that BArch admission will be carried out “as per the norms of Council of Architecture” and not by AICTE.
COA had suggested two years ago to do away with the PCM requirement for BArch admissions. But the decision was reversed in 2021.
Till COA issues an official clarification on the BArch admission norms, students should take PCM to be mandatory in Class 12 to be admitted into BArch courses.
