The opposition party in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK, staged a walkout from the Assembly, stating that they feel the CB-CID will not investigate the custodial death case properly. They have demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the opposition party in Tamil Nadu, staged a walkout from the assembly stating that they were not confident that the Crime Branch Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) would probe the custodial death case properly. The AIADMK had demanded that a CBI inquiry be initiated into this matter.
Hitting out at Chief Minister MK Stalin, opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, said that, “During the special call attention motion, CM said that the duo had breakfast and Vignesh suffered fits and was subsequently brought dead to hospital. Now the postmortem has come out and it reveals that he has suffered 13 grievous injuries and a fracture.”
There is a discrepancy between what the CM told the assembly and the post mortem report, said Palaniswami, adding, “We demanded a CBI enquiry. However, the case was transferred to CB-CID.”
Two men, Vignesh and Suresh, were arrested for possession of marijuana in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai on April 18. Vignesh died on April 19 after reportedly suffering seizures while in police custody. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
His family had alleged that police tortured Vignesh in custody. The postmortem report also confirmed that Vignesh had suffered 13 serious injuries.
The post mortem report also confirmed swelling and contusion on the left cheek filled with blood. However, the police had released a picture of Vignesh where the injuries were 'absent'.
“Now, CM has asked to register this as a murder case. We feel that CB CID will not investigate the case properly. Opposing this, we have walked out,” said Palaniswami.
