Agustin Escobar: Siemens CEO killed in the Hudson helicopter accident

Siemens CEO Agustin Escobar and family tragically killed in NYC helicopter crash, sparking calls for stricter regulations.

Agustin Escobar, the CEO of a Siemens subsidiary, was among six people who were killed after the sightseeing helicopter broke apart midair and crashed upside-down into the Hudson River in New York on April 10, 2025.

The victims included Escobar, his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, their three children, and the pilot. The bodies of all six victims were recovered from the water, Mayor Eric Adams said at a briefing earlier, after calling it a “heartbreaking and tragic crash.”

The helicopter’s landing skids were seen protruding from the river beside a tunnel vent as several boats clustered around the crash site.

Escobar, 55, originally from Puertollano, a town in central Spain worked for the tech company Siemens for more than 27 years, most recently as global CEO for rail infrastructure at Siemens Mobility. In late 2022 he briefly became president and CEO of Siemens Spain.

Escobar regularly posted about the importance of sustainability in the rail industry and often traveled internationally for work, including journeying to India and the UK in the past month. He also was vice president of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain since 2023.

Escober’s wife Camprubí Montal worked in Barcelona, Spain, for energy technology company Siemens Energy for about seven years, including as its global commercialisation manager and as a digitalisation manager.

There have been around 30 helicopter crashes in New York since 1980, Brooklyn Borough President Mark Levine told reporters, calling for tighter restrictions on helicopter traffic in the city.
