The five yards for selling local agriculture produce at Al Mazrouah, Al Wakra, Al Khor-Al Thakhira, Al Sheehaniya and Al Shamal will remain open for business thrice a week during Ramadan, a Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) official has said. Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti, general superviser of these yards at the MME, told a local Arabic daily that the five yards will be open from 7pm until 11pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during the holy month. He said the MME has worked to continue operations at these yards during Ramadan for the second consecutive year to help local farmers reach out to retailers and market their products easily. The official explained that the yards do not collect marketing fees from the farmers and help them reach out directly to consumers without intermediaries, which has contributed to lower prices of most varieties of vegetables compared to other retail outlets. Al-Sulaiti stressed that the yards have proven to be a very successful marketing place for local farms' products over the past years, in addition to being considered among the best retail venues for such items in the country. He also noted that the yards have always maintained high standards of quality with regard to the products on display, and have a clear approach towards informing consumers about the degree of quality of the items there.More Related News
