Police stepped up vigil in Agra to prevent any untoward incidents on Friday.
It was a peaceful day in Agra as police stepped up vigil to prevent any untoward incident amid protests over Nupur Sharma's Prophet remarks. Protests had broken out in earlier weeks just after the Friday prayers.
Agra zone ADG Rajiv Krishna had given instructions to district police chiefs to strictly deal with communal elements and those who try to disrupt the peace.
Following the ADG's orders, the police chiefs were seen actively marching through the streets of their districts, along with huge police contingents. Drones were deployed to locate where stones were gathered on the roofs. Most Muslims offered Namaz in their nearest mosques due to the heavy police presence.
Agra DIG / SSP Sudhir Kumar Singh had been holding meetings with the local religious leaders and peace committees since June 15 and every community was warned that any attempt to disrupt the peace in Agra would not be tolerated and would be dealt with a heavy hand.
Hindustani Biradari chairman vice-chairman Vishal Sharma urged the local population to act responsibly and protect their city from any attempts to destroy brotherhood amongst its residents.
Sharma said that the Hindustani Birdari had deployed its volunteers to prevent any untoward incident. The volunteers were instructed to identify any person seen trying to spread hatred and malice in the city.
