Enforcement Directorate officials on Thursday conducted raids at a special camp in Trichy prison.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided the special camp in Trichy jail, where foreign prisoners involved in international crimes are kept. This comes a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the camp premises in a drugs and arms case.
Foreign prisoners, mainly from Sri Lanka, China, Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria and Nigeria, are kept in the Trichy jail special camp for their involvement in crimes such as passport forgery, smuggling and theft.
The NIA officials had raided the high-security special camp on July 20 while tracking a case of narcotics and arms smuggling involving a Sri Lankan drug mafia and a Pakistan-based drugs and arms supplier.
The central agency stated that drugs and arms traffickers have been operating in India and Sri Lanka to revive the militant organisation, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The NIA searches were conducted in response to specific inputs involving some Sri Lankan nationals lodged in the camp, sources said.
