After iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones may get satellite connectivity feature
India Today
If the leak is accurate, it is possible Samsung will introduce the feature on its most-premium Galaxy S-series and Fold-series smartphones.
Samsung will reportedly introduce a satellite connectivity feature on its Galaxy smartphones after Apple debuted it on the iPhone 14 series. The leak comes from tipster Ricciolo on Twitter, but it remains which Samsung phones will get this feature and in which countries. Apple has restricted the satellite connectivity feature on the iPhone 14 series in the US and Canada. In countries like India, the connectivity option remains unavailable to the general public.
Apple introduced the option on the new iPhone 14 models - iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. It is also available on the super-premium Apple Watch Ultra. The option lets users use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when they're out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
If the leak is accurate, it is possible Samsung will introduce the feature on its most-premium Galaxy S-series and Fold-series smartphones, at least in the first phase. It is unclear whether the company would introduce the option in other markets apart from the US and Canada.
This is not the first time that Samsung is following Apple's suit on new features for its smartphone. For instance, the company started removing the headphones jack to boost sales of its in-house TWS earbuds. Apple was the first to do it on its mainstream iPhone 7 series.
However, Apple has also borrowed some features from its Android counterparts for its new iPhone 14 smartphones. For instance, the company introduced AoD (always-on display) on iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. But the feature has been available on many Android phones for years. Samsung brought it to the mainstream with the Galaxy S7 Edge in 2016. Similarly, the Action Mode, which is a fancy term for stable mode on iPhone 14, also exists on Samsung's flagship as Super Steady mode.
