After Gujarat, Karnataka govt hints at including Bhagavad Gita in school syllabus

A day after the Gujarat government introduced a circular to include Bhagavad Gita in school syllabus, Karnataka minister also hinted at the possibility of including Gita, after consultation with education experts.
Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh on Friday hinted at the possibility of introducing Bhagavad Gita in school syllabus, a day after the Gujarat government introduced a circular in this regard.
BC Nagesh said, "Bhagavad Gita is not only for the Hindus, it is for all. If experts say, it will definitely be introduced. However, it will not be done this year, but from next year."
The Gujarat government on March 17 decided to include Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the school syllabus for classes 6-12, to "cultivate a sense of pride and connection to traditions".

"We're going to speak to our CM about whether we're going to introduce Moral Science. We will consult with him. We want to introduce it by next academic year. What has an impact on the children will be introduced--whether it is Bhagavad Gita, Ramayan or Mahabharat," BC Nagesh said.
"Many parents feel it [Moral Science] should be introduced. At present we've not thought of it. But we want to introduce them in the future. Subject in Moral Science will be decided by educational experts," he added.
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah said that if any decision is taken in this regard, it will be looked into seriously.
