After Director of Cricket Ashley Giles and head coach Chris Silverwood, batting coach Grahan Thorpe quit from his job as heads continue to roll in England cricket following their woeful Ashes campaign in Australia.
Heads continue to roll in England cricket as batting coach Graham Thorpe stepped down from his role, hours after head coach Chris Silverwood quit from the top on Friday, February 4. Thorpe is the latest casualty after Director of Cricket Ashley Giles was sacked following England's horror campaign in the Ashes where they were hammered 0-4 by Australia Down Under.
Thorpe was overseeing the batting unit in the Ashes even as England suffered multiple batting collapses, failing to stand up against the Australian bowling attack.
Former England skipper Andrew Strauss has replaced Giles on an interim basis and will appoint a caretaker coach for the forthcoming tour of West Indies in March.
"I’d like to thank Graham for his work over many years on the England coaching staff and wish him the best for the future," Giles said in a statement by the ECB.
Meanwhile, Thorpe thanked the opportunity that came his way to be part of the England dressing room once again.
"I have been very fortunate to have worked with so many good players and coaches who I consider my friends for life," Thorpe said.
England are due to play three test matches against the West Indies starting from March 8 in North Sound, Antigua. Last month, they lost the Twenty20 series 3-2.
