After 2 years of Covid pandemic lull, Delhi markets witness boost during Holi festivities
India Today
To much delight, Delhi is gearing up to celebrate the festival of colours, Holi, in full force this year, after a nearly two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.
Almost two years after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country, Delhi residents will finally be able to celebrate a festival without restrictions or fear. And its impact on the colour market is beginning to be felt.
Customers are queuing for gulal, pichkari, and colours everywhere, from wholesale markets in Sadar Bazar and Kotla Mubarakpur to retail shops in the nation's capital's neighbourhood. Customers appear to be enthusiastic about the festival of colours, especially now that they can attend large festive gatherings and Holi get-togethers.

Gopal Das Kamra, the owner of a wholesale store selling colours and Holi-themed items in Kotla Mubarakpur, appears upbeat and optimistic.
"The Holi-based market is up nearly 4050 percent this year, and the business will likely be back on track," said Gopal Das Kamra.
"Due to Covid-19 [last year], the children were afraid and did not play Holi as freely as they usually do. Societies and organisations were also avoiding organising community festivities, which resulted in a drop in sales," Kamra told India Today.
"Within a year or two, the community's Holis and get-together will further strengthen the business...this year, we are seeing increased demand for gulal. Children are interested in a variety of pichkaris, but gulal accounts for the majority of sales," Kamra added.
