
After 1st monkeypox case, Centre says 15 labs across country ready to test samples

A day after the first case of monkeypox was reported in the country, the ICMR-NIV said 15 research and diagnostic labs are in readiness to deal with the infection.
Fifteen research and diagnostic labs across the country are in readiness to deal with monkeypox infections, the ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune said a day after the first case of the viral disease was detected in India.
These labs are geographically well distributed and strategically located, and the personnel have been trained to carry out diagnostic tests for monkeypox, it said.
To help country's preparedness for Monkey Pox detection, 15 Virus Research & Diagnostic Laboratories across the country, which are geographically well distributed & strategically located, have already been trained in the diagnostic test by ICMR -NIV, Pune. @MoHFW_INDIA
The first monkeypox case in India was reported from Kerala’s Kollam on Thursday. The patient, a man, had returned from the UAE on July 12. His samples were sent to NIV Pune for testing and came back positive.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is sending a high-level multi-disciplinary team to Kerala to collaborate with the state health authorities in instituting public health measures in view of the confirmed case of monkeypox in Kollam district, a Press Information Bureau release said.
