AFG vs IRE, T20 series: Mohammad Nabi will lead Afghanistan's 16-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Ireland.
Afghanistan have named a strong 16-member squad for their upcoming T20I series against Ireland to be played from Tuesday, August 9 to Wednesday, August 17 at Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.
Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Naveen-ul-Haq have been added to the squad for the white-ball series. Ibrahim has been in decent enough form, having scored 283 runs from seven matches in the Shpageeza Cricket League at an average of 56.60 and a strike rate of 144.38 with three half-centuries to his name. He is also the fifth highest run-scorer in the domestic T20 league.
Ibrahim played his last T20I way back in November 2019 against West Indies. Shahidi last donned the national jersey in T20Is back in March this year. Naveen hasn’t played for Afghanistan this year, but he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the T20 Blast 2022 in England.
The pacer picked up 24 wickets from 14 matches while playing for Leicestershire in England’s domestic T20 league. Nijat Masood, Usman Ghani, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Qais Ahmad have been added to the squad as reserves. Mujeeb and Qais recently played in the T20 Blast.
It has also been learned that Mujeeb will be added to the squad once his visa issues are sorted. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) recently obtained UAE residency visas for almost 12 officials and players to avoid visa issues.
