Adopting ideals of Lord Mahavir will bring lasting world peace, says Vice-Chancellor

Mahavir Jayanti celebrated with colorful processions, mass lunches, and speeches on Lord Mahavir's teachings promoting peace and non-violence.
Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated across the region on Thursday. Colourful processions were taken out and mass lunch were organised across cities and towns. Resource persons spoke of the life and contribution of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jains.
In Belagavi, it was celebrated at several places.
The Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Mahotsav Committee organised a procession. It started from Tilak Chowk and passed through Sheri Galli, Math Galli, Kapileshwar Bridge, S.P.M. Road, Shahapur Kore Galli and Govaves, concluding near Mahavir Bhavan. A mass lunch was organised at the Mahavir Bhavan.
Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Kerala Siddu Alagur inaugurated a procession.
“There are wars going on in several countries around the world. However, a sincere attempt at following the ideals of Lord Mahavir can bring lasting world peace. For peace to prevail globally, we must adopt the principle of non-violence advocated by Mahavir,” he said.
Prof. Alagur emphasized that in today’s stressed lifestyle, the teachings and philosophy of Lord Mahavir are highly relevant and it was the duty of everyone to uphold them.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan remarked that the Jain community is one of the most peace-loving communities in the world. He noted that Jainism is a religion of tolerance, non-violence and goodwill toward all, without causing harm to anyone.
