Rigorous training and strict diet - Aditya Roy Kapoor talks about what it took to get in shape for his action film, Rashtra Kavach Om.
Ever since the trailer of Rashtra Kavach Om, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjana Sanghi, was released, fans have been swooning over Aditya's washboard abs and chiselled physique. Even though we've seen several celebrities transform for a particular role, that level of rigorous training and strict diet isn't easy. Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, Aditya revealed that he had to give up on his 'life' to look the part in Om. And, he also gave us a peek into his meticulous diet. Read on:
Aditya Roy Kapur sports an enviable physique in Rashtra Kavach Om. Ask him what he had to give up to get the required physique, and he quips, "Life." "It took a lot of time to build that physique," Aditya started off. He further explained how his exercise routine included both lifting weights and action training. "To get bigger you have to lift weights and eat. For this film, I also had to do action training for four months. And when you do action, you lose muscle. It was like, in the morning, I was doing two hours of action training and losing muscles, and in the evening, trying to build that muscle back. It was like an antithesis. That's why it was so much tougher for me to actually put on the mass along with doing the training," he said.
This is the first time Aditya is doing an out-and-out action flick, and he admits that he had a lot of fun doing so. "This is the first time I've done an out-and-out action film. Malang had a little bit of action, but this required a whole other level of commitment. But it was fun to do. It was fun to train day in and day out, and I got to learn a new skill," he said.

Apart from rigorous training, Aditya also had to follow a strict diet. Sharing with us his diet for the duration he was prepping for Om, Aditya said, "I had to give up all the good things in life. So yeah, I was on a strict diet, and couldn't cheat. I had to eat a lot of food, but a lot of boring food, like protein, brown rice and sweet potato, no oil, that kind of stuff. Diet coke was the only sweet thing I would have. That was a lifesaver for me because at least there was some meetha, something sweet. It's pretty boring, but obviously, you are working towards a goal, so you get focused for those few months and I like that. I like having pockets of time where I'm intensely working towards something and then you get a break and then you get back to it. It keeps things interesting."
In Rashtra Kavach Om, Aditya will be seen in an out-and-out action-hero avatar. When asked if he feels objectified when people focus more on his physique and good looks rather than his acting, he said, "I don't think so. Especially in the case of Om. Physicality is something that is taking the center stage. The action is new for me. So, I guess for people, that is what is new, where I'm trying to do this new genre. And once they watch the film, obviously, then they'll start talking about different things. But I guess, if someone had to react based on the trailer, they would talk about the look. So, I don't get disheartened as long as they are saying good things about me. If they said 'kya gandha lag raha hain Adi', then I would be disheartened."
Apart from Om, Aditya will also be seen in the official remake of Thadam alongside Mrunal Thakur and Vedika Pinto.
