In the latest twist in the Kerala actress assault case, actor Dileep has claimed that director Balachandrakumar extorted Rs 10 lakh from him in the name of then Neyyattinkara Bishop of the Latin Catholic Church.
This comes after Balachandrakumar, who used to be Dileep's friend, stated earlier this month that the actor was in possession of visuals of the assault incident and had tried to influence witnesses in the case. He also alleged that the main accused in the case, Pulsar Suni, was seen at Dileep's residence.

The case pertains to an incident in 2017 when an actress was kidnapped and assaulted allegedly at the behest of Dileep. The incident was also recorded purportedly to be used as blackmail material against the survivor. Additionally, the accused allegedly threatened investigation officers probing the case. Dileep is the eighth accused in the case. His brother Anoop and brother-in-law Sooraj have also been accused in the case.
Now, ahead of appearing for interrogation in the case on Sunday, Dileep filed a statement in the Kerala High Court. In his statement, he claimed that director Balachandrakumar demanded money from him after he was released from jail in 2017 by "falsely claiming" that he had been instrumental in getting him bail with the help of the bishop.
Balachandrakumar allegedly said that he needed the money to pay the bishop who had helped to get Dileep released. When Dileep refused to pay, Balachandrakumar threatened to call the police and make allegations against him, he claimed.
Dileep also claimed that Balachandrakumar had made "false allegations" against him earlier in January because he had refused to act in the director's film.
