The mess secretary of the Kaveri hostel at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) rubbished claims by the ABVP about the decision "over no non-vegetarian food in the mess".
The mess secretary of the Kaveri hostel at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) refuted the ABVP's claims over Sunday clashes on campus and said, "The concern was not of right vs left. It has been politicised by the ABVP."
Earlier in the day, ABVP JNU president Rohit Kumar had claimed that it was decided seven days ago that non-vegetarian food will be cooked on Ram Navami. Reaction to this, the Kaveri hostel mess committee secretary said there was no such decision.
"The ABVP's claim that students didn't want non-veg is false. The mess committee never made a decision," the secretary said.
"The mess warden had sent a message on April 9, asking not to cook non-veg. When we asked for a written order, there was no such written communication from their side," the official said.
The Kaveri hostel union president also said that the ABVP lied about the no non-veg decision. "The student body had not taken any decision to cut out non-veg," the union president said.
"An oral recommendation was given by the hostel warden on Saturday evening. No written order from warden or authorities was issued," the hostel president said.
"ABVP goons prevented us from meeting the warden and mess supervisor on Sunday evening when there was no food for over 150 students," the hostel president said.
