About 10,000 people gheraoed Assam Police, used violence: Assam CM on Dholpur clashes

Speaking about the firing incident which took place at Dholpur village in Assam’s Darrang district on Thursday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that about 10,000 people had gheraoed the security personnel and used violence.
Speaking about the firing incident which took place at Dholpur village in Assam’s Darrang district on Thursday during an eviction drive, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that about 10,000 people had gheraoed the security personnel and used violence on them.
"An eviction drive was initiated with an agreed principle. That landless will be provided 2 acres each as per land policy and representatives [of locals] agreed [to that]. We expected no resistance but about 10,000 people gheraoed Assam Police and used violence. Then police retaliated," Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
