Ponniyin Selvan is touted to be a potential game-changer for the Tamil film industry. The two-part franchise has reportedly been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore, making it one of Lyca's most ambitious projects. The cast is headlined by Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, R. Parthiban, and Kishore, among others.
The film hit the screens on September 30, a day after Dhanush's Naane Varuven. It received positive reviews, with most critics praising the intense performances. Some, however, felt that the narrative was slow. Ponniyin Selvan will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after releasing in theatres. The film's sequel is expected to open in theatres nine months after the first part.
