AAP to hold meeting today to discuss upcoming Presidential elections
India Today
With only two days to go for the Presidential elections, Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Political Affairs Committee will hold a meeting today to announce support for its choice of candidate.
Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Political Affairs Committee will hold a meeting today, July 16 to discuss the upcoming Presidential elections. A decision will be taken on voting in the Presidential polls.
AAP, which has 92 MLAs and seven Rajya Sabha MPs and has a vote value of 15,572 out of 27,572 in the state, could sway the voting by a large margin. However, the party is yet to take a call and the leaders are awaiting confirmation on the same.
Notably, AAP had skipped the meeting of the opposition parties that was held last month to build consensus on a joint candidate for the Presidential Election.
Several opposition parties, including Shiv Sena, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), have already extended support to NDA's presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu. With the support of the regional parties, Murmu's vote share in the presidential poll is likely to reach nearly two-thirds.
Meanwhile, a combined 17 opposition parties have nominated former Union Minister Yashwant Singh as their presidential candidate.
The Presidential election is scheduled for July 18, while the results will be announced on July 21. The counting of votes, if it happens, will be held in Delhi.
