Troy Kotsur made history by becoming the second deaf actor to win an Oscar award. He won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 94th Academy Awards. He was nominated for his role in CODA. While Troy made his way up on the stage to receive the prize, the audience gave a standing ovation and cheered for him in sign language. The crowd broke into jubilation as the winner’s name was announced. The video of the actor receiving the award on stage and the audiences’ reaction to it is now a viral video.
The award was presented by Youn Yuh-jung, who won Best Actress in Supporting Role at Oscars 2021. After she announced Troy as the winner, she signed the words, "Congrats, I love you,” to the actor. The audience honuoured Kotsur with a standing ovation and applauded him in sign language. It was a heartwarming moment, indeed!

His CODA co-star Marlee Matlin was the first deaf star to win an Oscar. She won Best Actress for her performance in Children of a Lesser God in 1987.
