A new NATO commander for Europe takes charge

American four-star General Christopher Cavoli was sworn in as the new Supreme Allied Commander and head of U.S. European Command a day after a two-day NATO summit.
Jennifer Griffin currently serves as a national security correspondent for FOX News Channel (FNC) and is based out of the Washington D.C. bureau. She joined the network in October 1999 as a Jerusalem-based correspondent.
"Chris knows Europe better than any living officer in uniform today. Chris is literally purpose built to lead EUCOM," General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, said during the ceremony, accompanied by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Austin thanked outgoing commander Gen Tod Wolters, who has overseen the transformation of NATO in the months since Russia invaded Ukraine Feb. 24.
