Roads and Buildings Minister urges timely completion of Alwal TIMS Hospital, emphasizing quality, efficiency, and healthcare expansion.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the construction of Alwal TIMS Hospital, citing a lack of coordination among departments and the absence of a Dharamshala (rest house) for patient families. He urged the concerned authorities to expedite the work and ensure timely completion.
During his inspection of the construction site on Tuesday, the Minister conducted a detailed review of the ongoing development of the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Alwal. The hospital, being constructed with an estimated budget of ₹897 crore, has achieved 90% completion. Spanning 11.53 lakh square feet, it is designed to house 1,000 beds, 24 operation theatres, and services from 35 departments. However, officials attributed construction delays to changes introduced by the previous government under the pretext of Vastu compliance.
The Minister emphasised the urgency of completing the hospital by the target date of August 31, 2025, assuring that any land or procedural hurdles would be resolved promptly. He noted that the TIMS Hospitals at Alwal, Sanathnagar, LB Nagar, and Punjagutta NIMS would significantly ease the strain on public hospitals such as Gandhi and Osmania, which are currently overwhelmed by patient inflow.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to healthcare, Mr. Venkat Reddy mentioned the expansion of the Aarogyasri scheme, which now offers up to ₹10 lakh in health coverage per family. He added that ₹1,600 crore were allocated to the scheme last year.
The Minister directed the construction company to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency while paying special attention to critical departments such as Major OT, Emergency, Radiology, Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine. He also urged collaboration with medical experts to ensure the proper setup of operation theatres and medical wards. He criticised the Opposition for politicising developmental projects, asserting that the government remains focused on addressing public healthcare needs despite such distractions. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to complete the TIMS Hospitals by December 2025, marking a significant step toward transforming Telangana’s healthcare infrastructure.
