Eight people, including four children, suffered second- and third-degree burns after an incident set off a fire at a home on Montreal's South Shore Saturday night.
Emergency crews were called to the house on Breton Street in Saint-Constant in the Montérégie around 10:15 p.m.
Witnesses told Radio-Canada they heard loud noises similar to something exploding. They said it was a chaotic scene, with people flooding the street and one neighbour rushing to get the children out of the house.
All eight people are expected to recover from their injuries, authorities say.
Ambulance officials say the circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear, but the fire could have been caused by some kind of explosion in the garage at the back of the house.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Hydro-Québec is now trying to reconnect electricity in the area. According to Radio-Canada, the intensity of the flames melted the power lines near the house.
