A 7-year-old girl died and seven other people were wounded – including two young children – when shots were fired while they were standing outside at a family gathering in Chicago Saturday night, police said. The girl was pronounced dead after being shot in the head, according to Chicago police. A 1-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy were each shot multiple times and left in critical condition, Chicago Police Deputy Chief Don Jerome said at a news conference Saturday. Five adults from 19 to 40 years old were also wounded, police said, though it’s unclear what condition they’re in. All the victims were taken to area hospitals, police said. “This was not a random act of violence. It was likely gang related,” Jerome said. “Regardless of the motivation for this incident, three innocent children were struck tonight and one of them tragically succumbed to her wounds.” Responding officers administered life-saving measures on those who were shot, including applying tourniquets and chest seals, Jerome said, calling the shooting “tragic.” Police have not named any suspects in the shooting, and no arrests were reported as of early Sunday.

Botched Epstein redactions trace back to Virgin Islands’ 2020 civil racketeering case against estate
A botched redaction in the Epstein files revealed that government attorneys once accused his lawyers of paying over $400,000 to “young female models and actresses” to cover up his criminal activities

The Justice Department’s leadership asked career prosecutors in Florida Tuesday to volunteer over the “next several days” to help to redact the Epstein files, in the latest internal Trump administrationpush toward releasing the hundreds of thousands of photos, internal memos and other evidence around the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The US State Department on Tuesday imposed visa sanctions on a former top European Union official and employees of organizations that combat disinformation for alleged censorship – sharply ratcheting up the Trump administration’s fight against European regulations that have impacted digital platforms, far-right politicians and Trump allies, including Elon Musk.
