A six-year-old girl who was allegedly shot in the head gave a new lease of life to five people by becoming the youngest organ donor in the country. Her grieving parents, however, are crying foul.
Hari Narayan Prajapati, father of six-year-old girl Roli, said the girl was found shot in the head under suspicious circumstances at their home on the night of April 27. She was first rushed to the district hospital in Noida, which referred her to AIIMS New Delhi.
Two days after being admitted in AIIMS, Prajapati claimed the doctor told him that there was little hope that Roli would live. The doctor then convinced the girl’s parents to donate her organs. It was the hardest decision of their lives, he said.
“The doctor said it was impossible that she would survive. I could not think straight, the doctor had to explain over and over again. He said that although we would be losing my daughter, she could help save the lives of other people. Eventually, my wife and I agreed,” said Hari Narayan Prajapati, who does sewing work at a private company.
What baffles Roli’s parents is how the little girl was shot inside their very home and who would do such a thing. They alleged that the police has not taken any action in the matter so far.
“I am glad that five lives were saved because of my daughter, but I want justice for her,” said Roli’s inconsolable mother.
Dr Deepak Gupta, who treated Roli at AIIMS, said the decision to donate the girl’s organs was not an easy one for her parents. They have set an example by making such a selfless decision, he added.
